Description

Khumjung is a village in the Khumbu region inside Sagarmatha National Park. Mt. Khumbila (5,761 m.) and Tengboche Monastery are major sites in the Khumbu region.

The Island Peak (6,189 m.) is located in the upper Imja Valley. It is also known as Imja Tse. The hike to Island Peak is a popular one. However, the climb is difficult due to steep climbing.

The hike to Kalapathar begins at Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the easiest route that leads to Kalapathar. In Nepali, Kalapathar literally means ‘black rock’. It is one of the most popular hubs among trekkers as it is the most obliging point to the highest peak of the world. In addition to Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kantenga, Pumo Ri, Lhotse, Kantenga, Nuptse, and Changtse can also be viewed from Kalapathar.

Itineraries

We will take an early flight to Lukla. We will meet crew members there and start trekking through forested landscapes for 4 hours to reach Phakding Village.

We will start walking early in the morning through rhododendron forests along the bank of Dudh Koshi River. We will enter into the Sagarmatha National Park and walk through it to reach Namche Bazaar.

The route offers the stunning views of Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Kusum Kangru, Kwangde and Taweche on the way to Namche.

We will climb steeply for 2 hours to reach Tengboche Monastery. We will take rest for a while and explore the oldest Monastery of Khumbu region (Tengboche Monastery). Then walk through easy trail towards Dingboche.

The trail is almost flat for about an hour and then starts to climb gently in the beginning and moderately steep towards the end for about an hour. We will bypass the Pheriche and Thukla Village. We will walk over moraine terminal and flat dotted ground to reach Lobuche.

We will walk through the lateral moraine of Khumbu Glacier and ascend steeply upwards to reach the Base Camp of highest mountain in the world. The base camp offers the breathtaking views of high Himalayas of Khumbu region.

After spending some time at the Base Camp and taking photographs we head back the same way to Gorakhshep.

We will trek back to Dingboche and stay overnight in tented camp.

We will walk just 2 hours to reach Chhukung Village. Upon arrival in Chhukung, we will practice the uses of gears and get skills to walk through icy rocks by climbing experts.

We will walk through the glacial river and open arid valley to the Island peak Base camp and pass on the way the last settlement Chhukung village and finally reach Base camp near south slopes of the Island Peak.

We will start walking with the help of flash light where the track leads towards north east beyond the base camp through few hundred meters rugged flat path before steep climb of hillside to reach the High Camp.

We will start climbing very early in the morning because it is important to reach the summit before noon because to avoid the strong winds in the highlands which could be a barrier for a successful summit.

The  summit offers the massive views of Lhotse South face to the North, Mt. Makalu to the East and the beautiful ridge following west towards Mt. Amadablam. We will descend back to the Base Camp.

The trek to Dingboche follows the same way that you walked to come up to Base Camp.

The trail goes steeply downwards to reach the meet-point of Imja and Khumbu Rivers. Then slightly uphill climb takes you to the Namche Bazaar.

In the early morning we will explore the Sherpa Museum and Sagarmatha National Park Museum to collect some historic ideas of the Khumbu region then walk for 4 hours along the bank of Dudh Koshi River to reach Lukla Village.

We will take an early flight to return back to the Kathmandu Valleyand transfer you to the hotel for your refreshment.
