Description

Paldor Peak (5,896 m) is situated in the Ganesh Himal, northwest of Katmandu. The name Ganesh is taken from the elephant-headed Hindu god of good luck, probably the most popular goddess in the Kathmandu valley. Paldor Peak lies at the southeast end of Ganesh Himal marking the junction of the Tiru and Karpu Dandas at the head of the Mailung Khola, a tributary of the Trisuli River. On a clear day the Ganesh Himal, with the icy fangs of Pabil (7,101 m), Logsang Karpo (7,150 m), Ganesh I (7,406 m) and Ganesh V (6,950 m) can be seen forming an imposing backdrop to the northwest of Kathamndu.

In 1974 Mr. John Cleare and Ian Howell had first climbed the Paldor Peak. Paldor Peak is one of the best and famous trekking Peaks in the Ganesh Himal region. This peak can be climbed from North East, South East, West, and southwest Ridge.

From Sabrubesi near Dunche are the quickest approach to Paldor Peak and Ganesh Himal in the Trisuli valley after 6 to 7 hours drive from Kathmandu. From here the trail crosses the Langtang Khola to Sabrubesi. After crossing the Langtang Khola the route leads via Tamang heritage villages of Tangjet and Gatlang. Then the route heads northwards along the ridge before dropping into the forest above Mailung Khola to pick up the newly built road that leads to an army post. The moraine filled valley below Paldor Peak is reached from here in another day walk. A more interesting approach is the trek from Sundarijal (on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley) through the hills of Helambu and over the Gosainkunda range to Sabrubesi.
