Description

The Khumbu Valley is also known as the Everest region that includes the Sagarmatha National Park. Khumjung and Kunde are two large villages of the Khumbu region. Mt. Khumbila (5,761 m.) is an attraction of the Khumbu region. In addition, Mt. Everest, Mt.Lhotse, and Mt. Ama Dablam also serve as the backdrop to the Khumbu Valley.

Mera Peak (6,476 m.) is the highest trekking peak located in the Sagarmatha Zone. It is considered as an uncomplicated ascent. The first ascent to Mera Peak was made in 1953, May 20. The Mera Peak trek is technically a straightforward ascent. So, nowadays, trekkers sought after Mera Peak. However, adjusting to the high attitude of Mera Peak becomes a challenge for some trekkers. From the Mera Peak, the splendid panorama of Makalu, Kanchanjunga, Cho Oyu and Everest can be seen.

Itineraries

We will start our journey early in the morning by taking jeep from Ratnapark, Kathmandu. Jiri (1,955 m) is 200 km far and takes 9 hours to reach there as the route is off-beaten and narrow.

After breakfast, we will trek for 5 hours to reach Shivalaya and stay overnight at Lodge.

The trek will be easier and gentle as we walk only 3 hours today to reach Bhandar Village. We will walk through the forested landscapes and pass several villages and cross the rivers.

We will explore the Buddhists Monastery in Bhandar village. Later, we will enter into a green valley and walk along the roaring river to reach the Kenja Village. Then 1 hour of steep ascent take us to Sethe Village.

We will cross the two different villages after Sethe. We will then pass a white stupa and reach the Lamjura Pass. We can see the old monasteries and schools before we reach Junbesi.

We will hike to explore the ancient history of Thupten Chholing Monastery which is famous for Buddhist Pilgrims. Later, we will enjoy the adorable beauty of the surrounding which offers the lofty scenery of mighty peak of Khumbu region.

We will begin our journey crossing the Junbesi River then start climbing through the forest to reach Khurtang and cross suspension bridge over Ringmo River. Passing old stupas and the Taksindu Monastery we will reach Nunthala.

We will walk through the forested landscapes and cross several villages and farming lands to reach Pang Gum Camp. It will take 6 hours to reach there.

We will start walking through steep climb for 2 hours to reach the crest of the ridge then gradually down for another 2 hours to reach Najing Dingma Camp.

We will walk through off-beaten track and probably not meet other trekkers on this route. There we rarely find the settlements until we reach Choelem Kharka. We will stay overnight in tented camp.

The narrow path will go through thickly wooded hillsides. It goes up and down. We will cross small streams, rivers, rhododendron forests, bamboo and tall fir-trees.

We will walk through the forest until we reach Tashing Ongma and then along Hinku River, which has carved itself well down into the valley bottom and like a glacier has left huge boulders. As we enter into the Kothe Village we will be welcomed by the gate to The Mera Peak Region and Makalu Barun National Park.

From Kothe we will enter the dry part of the riverbed with lots of rocks. The route follows the river all the way. Ahead we will have a view of the mountains Kusum Kangguru (6,367 m) and Kyasar (6,770 m).

We will enter the Mera Peak from the north side just above the glacial lake sabai Tsho. We will stay in Khare tonight.

From the edge of the moraine we will cross the Mera glacier. During the time of crossing the Mera La Pass (5,415 m) we will be challenged technically by the strenuous route. We will gradually walk towards Mera High Camp.

We will begin climbing at 3 a.m. in the morning to reach the summit during the sunrise. We will enjoy the amazing panorama view of the Everest, Lhotse, Cho You, Makalu and Kanchenjunga from the summit of Mera Peak. After the photo shoot, we will descend to the base camp in Khare.

We will take rest in Khare.

We will continuously descend for 5 hours to reach Kothe Village.

We will follow the Hinku River for a while then climb uphill and then walk through the gradual landscapes inside the forests to reach Zatra.
