Kalapathar, literally meaning ‘black rock’ in Nepali, is one of the most popular spots among trekkers. Kalapthar serves as the most obliging point to the highest peak of the world. The hike to Kalapathar begins at Gorakshep. It is also the easiest route that leads to Kalapathar. In addition to Everest, Ama Dablam (6812m.), Thamserku, Kantenga, Pumo Ri, Lhotse, Kantenga, Nuptse, and Changtse also can be viewed from Kalapathar.
Namche Bazaar is located in the Khumbu valley. It is a popular Sherpa village. Namche Bazaar is known among trekkers as a place for altitude acclimatization and refilling center of their necessary stock. The Friday evening and Saturday markets in the bazaar are interesting. Years back when locals of Namche Bazaar bartered their dairy products with agricultural products, Namche Bazaar was a trading post. The Namche monastery, Namche library, Museum of Sherpa life and the Namche bazaar (market) can be the major places to visit in the Namche area. Lodging, food, communication and even medical facilities are not a problem in the Namche region. Visitors can find a variety in all. The trek is a seventeen-day long trek that also comprises of sightseeing around major places of Kathmandu Valley and hike to Namo Buddha in the beginning and sightseeing around Thamel at the end.
