Ama Dablam and Kalapathar is the hub of this Everest trek. Inexact words, Ama Dablam means ‘mother’s necklace’, and Kalapathar means ‘black rock’. The trek includes hikes to Ama Dablam (6,812 m), Island Peak (5,080 m), and Kalapathar (5,545 m.).
Ama Dablam is located in the Khumbu Valley and is one of the most popular Himalayan peaks for permitted expeditions. Makalu, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Everest are clearly seen from the peak of Ama Dablam. The Island Peak (6189m.), located in the upper Imja Valley, is also known as Imja Tse. The hike to Island Peak is a popular one despite the climb being difficult due to the steep climbing. The hike to Kalapathar begins at Gorakshep and is also the easiest route that leads to Kalapathar. From the Kalapathar, Everest, Changtse, Nuptse Nup II, and also a part of Lhotse is seen.
The Namche Bazaar, located in the Khumbu valley, is known among trekkers as a place for altitude acclimatization and the refilling center of their necessary stock.
