Chulu Far East (6,059m), also known as Chulu Peak, is one of the most accessible trekking peaks in the Annapurna region, offering a thrilling high-altitude climb combined with the beauty of the Annapurna Circuit. This Himalayan adventure takes you through lush forests, high-altitude pastures, traditional villages, and glacial terrains before reaching the summit, which provides spectacular scenic views of Annapurna II, III, IV, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Gangapurna. Located within the Annapurna Conservation Area, this journey is a perfect blend of Nepal trekking and Nepal mountaineering.

This 14-day trekking itinerary blends high-altitude trekking with peak climbing, making it ideal for adventurers with good fitness and some prior trekking experience. The tea-house and tented camp accommodation ensures a comfortable journey through the Himalayan range. The route includes acclimatization days to help prevent altitude sickness, as well as a stay at the base camp before the final ascent. The trekking routes pass through alpine terrain, offering a remote trek experience with breathtaking mountain views.

The Chulu Far East expedition is a classic mountain expedition that can be enjoyed as a group trek or with a Sherpa guide, providing insights into the local culture and ensuring safety. This journey is a must for those seeking a mix of peak climbing and cultural immersion in the heart of the Himalayas.

Experience Needed

  • The itinerary includes gradual altitude gain with acclimatization days.
  • Proper hydration and rest are necessary to prevent altitude sickness.

Itineraries

You will travel by jeep from Kathmandu to Besisahar, a journey that takes approximately 7 hours. The scenic drive will give you a taste of the diverse landscapes in Nepal as you head towards the mountains.

Today, you will drive by jeep from Besisahar to Koto, followed by a trek to Chame, a 6 hours journey. The jeep ride takes you off the beaten path, and you’ll begin trekking soon after arriving in Koto.

After breakfast, you’ll begin your 6 hours trek to Upper Pisang. The path takes you through beautiful pine forests and offers fantastic views of the surrounding mountains.

Today’s 6 hours trek brings you to Manang, a major village in the region. As you ascend, the views of the Himalayas grow more dramatic, and you’ll feel the higher altitude as you reach your camp in Manang.

Today is a rest day to allow your body to acclimatize to the altitude. You can take a hike to Gangapurna Lake and its glaciers before returning to Manang for the night.

Today, you’ll embark on a 7-8 hours trek to Tilicho Base Camp. The journey offers increasingly stunning views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers, and you’ll reach camp at the base of Tilicho Peak.

You’ll hike to Tilicho Lake, the highest lake in the world, located at an altitude of 4,990 meters. The hike will take about 7 hours, and you’ll return to base camp afterward for the night.

After a challenging trek to Tilicho Lake, you’ll trek back to Manang, taking approximately 7 hours. The route offers a chance to enjoy the changing landscapes as you descend.

You’ll trek for 6-7 hours to Chulu Far East Base Camp, where you’ll set up a tent camp. This area offers stunning views and will serve as a base for your upcoming summit.

A 3 hours trek takes you from Chulu Far East Base Camp to Chulu High Camp, where you’ll set up camp for the night.

This is the summit day. After reaching the peak of Chulu Far East at 6,059 meters, you’ll descend back to the base camp, completing the ascent and descent in a challenging, yet rewarding day.

You will trek for 5-6 hours to Ngawal village, a beautiful and traditional settlement. This will be a more relaxing day as you descend to a lower altitude.

You’ll drive for 6-7 hours by jeep on off-road tracks, returning to Besisahar from Ngawal. The bumpy ride will take you back to the starting point of your trek.

The final leg of your journey will take you back to Kathmandu by jeep, a 7 hours drive through scenic landscapes, marking the end of your adventure.
