The Round Manaslu Trek is a classic Himalayan journey that circles the majestic Mount Manaslu (8,163 meters), the eighth-highest peak in the world. Located in the Gorkha District of Nepal, this remote and off-the-beaten-path route is ideal for trekkers seeking solitude, raw beauty, and cultural authenticity. The trek offers dramatic landscapes, ranging from lush subtropical forests and deep gorges to alpine meadows and glacial valleys, culminating in the crossing of the high and windswept Larkya La Pass at 5,160 meters.
This culturally rich trek follows the ancient salt-trading route along the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through remote villages inhabited by Gurung, Tibetan, and Nubri people. It offers deep insights into Tibetan Buddhist culture, with ancient monasteries, main walls, and chortens dotting the trail. As the route ascends, trekkers gradually move into the Trans-Himalayan region, where the influence of the Tibetan Plateau becomes stronger, both geographically and culturally.
The 15-day itinerary ensures proper acclimatization and includes several traditional mountain villages such as Samagaun and Samdo. The crossing of Larkya La Pass, the highest point of the trek, provides panoramic views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kangguru, and Annapurna II. After the pass, the trail descends into the Marsyangdi Valley, connecting briefly with the Annapurna Circuit trail before concluding at Besisahar.
The Round Manaslu Trek is a moderately strenuous journey that demands good fitness but does not require technical climbing skills. It remains one of Nepal’s less-trodden and most rewarding Himalayan adventures.
