Description

The 10-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic trekking journeys, leading deep into the heart of the Annapurna Sanctuary along the standard ABC route. Designed for trekkers who want a complete Himalayan experience within a manageable timeframe, this itinerary combines dramatic mountain scenery, varied landscapes, and authentic village life, all while maintaining a safe and steady pace.

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, followed by a short drive to Phedi, the traditional trailhead of the Annapurna region. From here, the trek gradually ascends through terraced hillsides, forested ridges, and quiet villages such as Tolkha and Chhomrong. In these lower sections, daytime temperatures are generally warm and comfortable, ranging between 18°C and 25°C, with cooler evenings after sunset.

As the trail climbs higher, the landscape transforms noticeably. Passing through bamboo forests, deep river valleys, and alpine terrain, trekkers move beyond Chhomrong toward the upper Modi Khola valley. Villages like Himalaya and Deurali sit beneath towering rock faces and cascading waterfalls. At these elevations, daytime temperatures typically range from 10°C to 15°C, while nighttime temperatures often drop close to freezing.

Reaching Machhapuchhre Base Camp at 3,700 meters marks a significant transition into the Annapurna Sanctuary. Surrounded by snow-covered peaks and glacial moraines, the environment becomes stark, open, and profoundly quiet. Daytime temperatures here usually stay between 5°C and 10°C, with cold nights that can fall below 0°C, especially in autumn and spring.

The highlight of the trek is the ascent to Annapurna Base Camp at 4,130 meters. Walking into this natural amphitheater of Himalayan giants offers close-up views of Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and the dramatic Machhapuchhre. At this altitude, daytime temperatures range from 2°C to 8°C, while early mornings and nights can drop to -5°C to -10°C, depending on the season. Despite the cold, clear weather often provides exceptional mountain visibility.

After reaching base camp, the route descends gradually through Dobhan and back to Chhomrong, allowing trekkers to retrace the trail with fresh perspective and easing the effects of altitude. Warmer air returns as the path drops lower, and the trek concludes with a final descent to Phedi, followed by a drive back to Pokhara and onward to Kathmandu.

This 10-day Annapurna Base Camp Trek with Ticino Treks is ideal for trekkers seeking a well-balanced Himalayan adventure that delivers high-altitude drama, cultural depth, and a classic mountain route without unnecessary extensions.

Itineraries

Travel by tourist bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara, a journey of approximately 6–7 hours. This scenic drive follows rivers, forests, and hillside villages. Upon arrival in Pokhara, a popular lakeside city, you'll check into a hotel and have time to explore the vibrant Lakeside area.

After breakfast, a short drive to Phedi marks the start of your trek. The trail begins with a steep climb to Dhampus, offering beautiful views of Machapuchhre (Fishtail) and Annapurna South. Continue through lush forests and small villages until you reach the charming village of Tolkha after about 6 hours of trekking.

Trek through terraced farmlands and cross the Modi Khola on a suspension bridge. Pass the beautiful Ghandruk village (optional route) and climb to Chhomrung, a large Gurung village known for its stunning mountain views and traditional stone houses. The trail offers excellent views of Annapurna South and Hiunchuli.

Descend via stone steps and cross the Chhomrung Khola. The trail leads through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests toward Bamboo, then climbs steadily to Dovan and further to Himalaya. Keep an eye out for Langur monkeys in the forest.

The trail ascends through Hinku Cave, past avalanche-prone areas, and opens up to a majestic alpine setting. You’ll reach Deurali and eventually Machhapuchhre Base Camp (MBC), surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks.

Wake early and trek 2 hours to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) for sunrise. The view from the Annapurna Sanctuary, surrounded 360° by Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machapuchhre, and more, is absolutely awe-inspiring. After spending time at ABC, descend back past MBC, Deurali, and Himalaya to reach Dobhan.

Retrace your steps back to Chhomrong, ascending and descending through familiar bamboo forests and across small streams. You'll regain the panoramic views of the Annapurna massif.

Descend through the forests and terraced slopes toward Jhinu Danda (option to take a detour for natural hot springs), then continue back to Tolkha on a pleasant, gradual path.

Trek down to Phedi via Dhampus or Landruk, then drive to Pokhara. Relax by Phewa Lake and enjoy a free evening to unwind.

Drive back to Kathmandu via tourist bus (6–7 hours), enjoying your final views of the countryside and foothills.
